Starting out as a concert violinist and later becoming a composer and producer, I eventually wound up working with software development teams and became first a Scrum Master, and now an Agile Coach. I find a striking similarity between being a music producer and Agile Coach. In both cases you get a bunch of brilliant people to work together and coax the best performances out of them while delivering a finished product on budget and on time.
I currently work at DistroKid, the world’s largest music distributor, and the platform my teams build and maintain distributes 40% of all the world’s new music. Needless to say there’s a lot going on at any given moment, and that’s half the fun. Most of my teams use some form of Scrumban, varying between being closer to pure Kanban and pure Scrum, depending on the team’s needs.
With the world constantly changing under our feet, I’m always interested in what’s next for Agile.
